Single Protein (Monoprotein)
Formulas with one animal protein source help with elimination. Read the full label, including snacks.
What is it?
A monoprotein formula contains one clear animal protein source (e.g. lamb, chicken or salmon only) instead of a mix of several meats. That makes it easier to test which protein source your dog tolerates during an elimination trial.
Why does it matter?
With food sensitivity you need to know what you are excluding. Several meats in one kibble make that hard. One protein source gives clarity: if your dog does well on lamb, lamb is a safe direction, as long as you include snacks and treats in the trial.
How does it work?
Elimination works by feeding one protein source consistently and avoiding others. The immune system is offered fewer different large proteins. After a calm period you can (with your vet) try other sources step by step. Monoprotein is not a guarantee, but a structured start.
Benefits
- Helps with elimination and exclusion trials
- Makes the label readable: one clear meat source
- Fits lamb, venison and other niche proteins
Misconceptions
Monoprotein does not mean no other animal ingredients. Check fat, gelatine or egg powder. Always read the full ingredient list and include snacks and treats in your trial.
