Hydrolyzed Protein

What is it?

Hydrolyzed protein is animal protein enzymatically broken into very small peptides, shorter than intact proteins. In premium kibble it is used for dogs with sensitive digestion or skin reactions to common protein sources.

Why does it matter?

With food sensitivity the immune system reacts to large protein particles. Smaller peptides are less often recognised as "foreign". That makes hydrolyzed protein a logical step before experimenting with exclusion diets, always with your vet for ongoing issues.

How does it work?

Hydrolysis cuts protein chains into fragments too small to trigger typical IgE-mediated reactions to common proteins. Amino acids remain available for build-up and maintenance; only the structure differs. It is nutritional support, not medical treatment.

Misconceptions
