Struvite & Urine Acidification

Struvite crystals form in alkaline urine. A diet with urine acidification and restricted magnesium belongs only under veterinary guidance.

What is it?

Struvite is a mineral that can crystallise in cat urine when urine is too alkaline and enough magnesium, ammonium and phosphate are present. Struvite grit and stones can irritate the urinary tract and cause pain when urinating.

Why does it matter?

If your cat visits the litter box often, passes only small amounts or goes outside the box, that can point to urinary issues. Struvite is a common cause. But not the only one. Only a vet can determine what is going on with testing.

How does it work?

Struvite diet food works through urine acidification (so existing struvite can dissolve) and restricted magnesium intake (to limit new crystallisation). Balloxx Anti-Struvite is a complete diet food formulated within that framework, not everyday kibble to feed "preventively".

Benefits

  • Urine acidification supports dissolving struvite grit
  • Restricted magnesium helps limit recurrence
  • Complete diet food, no separate supplement needed

Misconceptions

Anti-Struvite is not standard cat food for healthy cats. Use it only when your vet has confirmed struvite or prescribed a urine-acidifying diet. Without a diagnosis, the wrong food can do more harm than good.
